Information
Thought you couldn’t add a new paddle sport to your repertoire?
Try again! Here’s the newest watersport accessible to anyone
with varying levels of challenges that are motivated to learn and
push themselves. We will work with you and various volunteers to
evolve seat, paddle and equipment adaptations. We want to see all
paddlers as equals in the boat and give everyone the opportunity
to excel.
Vancouver Ocean Sports is proud to have led the first Canadian
Adaptive Outrigger Canoe team to the 2004 Hilo World Championship
Sprints. This was a monumental opportunity to promote outrigger
canoeing as a paralympic sport in the first-ever Adaptive Exhibition
Race held at an international event. This milestone had led to the
acceptance of an Adaptive division at the World Sprints in
New Zealand 2006 and in Sacramento in 2008. It is now an offcially sanctioned division at the World Outrigger Sprints!
PaddleALL Program: Any Boat, Any Body
As a participant in promoting CanoeKayak Canada's PaddleALL program, Vancouver Ocean Sports is dedicating volunteers to run an introduction to outrigger canoeing day once a month to people of varying physical or mental challenges. Participants can come out and try a new paddlesport.
Please contact us directly at canoeclub@poguesports.com to register and allow for adaptations to be organized.
PaddleALL Monthly Schedule for 2009:
Fees
PaddleALL days are Free of charge. Waivers must be signed by all participants and their supports. We encourage friends or family to come out and learn with paddleALL participants.
